Title: The Annoyances of the Future being Reliant on the Doctor's Pet
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] ThoughtsCascade
Rating: Not Rated
Word Count/Length/Size: 1981 words
Creator's Summary:
Missy heaved a sigh, rolling her eyes. "Time Lady. I can sense time loops. Time travel tastes different." She blinked innocently. "I could pull a Doctor and lick you to check, but really, the smell alone is enough. Would put me off my lunch, if I wasn't an unrepentant murder. Isn't much worse than blood. So. How long, and what was the inciting incident?"

Or, Missy is trapped in a time loop with one Clara Oswald, and neither are particularly pleased with this fact.
Characters/Pairings: Missy, Clara Oswald
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It's a really interesting time loop - much longer than you generally get when you think of the trope - which makes it fun. And it's also Missy being Missy and being annoyed with Clara, which is fun.

The cover and title--“Teenage Biker Mega-Death!”--both have a cheeky charm, but don’t be fooled. I’d call this the darkest story of Giffen and DeMatteis’ run, more so than the funeral episode, Blue Beetle’s mind imploding, or even the Despero stuff. Warning for death, violence, body horror, and a sense of crushing hopelessness I normally associate with election night 2016.

Even the first time I read this, I was like…‘‘JESUS.’’ )

Last night was the game awards and, as always, it was more about upcoming games and trailers than the actual awards. It always bothers me that some of the awards are spedran, without even the chance for the winners to come onstage. (Plus it’s so long, it started 12:30 and lasted until about 4am here)

For those that didn’t see it here are a bunch of things that happened:

*Sleep Token played in the overview trailer!
*Hades II, Hollow Knight Silksong and Donkey Kong Bananza all ran one award each (Best Action game, best Action/adventure game and best family game)
*Clair Obscure Expedition 33 win pretty much everything they were up for
*The whole Clair Obscure team were there, all of them wearing Berets
*There was a warframe video, Werner Herzog voiced and was in it
*Miss Piggy was there and was hilarious, it was also heavily implied she and the presenter of the awards spent the night together and had sex
*She also did a song with Rolf (I think that’s his name) which name checked everything from kingdom hearts to discord
*Maggie Roberson (tall vampire lady from Resident Evil) did a skit about a survival training session which was so funny
*Her and Neil Newborn presented the best voice acting award and were so funny
*There was a cut sheep herding cgame
*There was a trailer for a game that featured a man getting burned alive in a wicker man type thing, while there was an orgy going on. This wasn’t warned for and was in the first hour of the show (it’s also by the studio that did Baldurs Gate III, it’s called Divinity)
*There’s a new Tomb Raider game, as well as a remake. The latter looks bonkers and features dinosaurs
*Theres not one but two Star Wars games! The first I suspected would be a franchise game cause of how the trailer was cut (long shots, not showing characters) but I suspected it was Star Wars cause of the hiss of smoke when the boarding ramp went down, then the lightsaber sound confirmed it
*the other one is Galactic racer and is a dancing game, like the podracer games but with other ships too. It looks so cool and has Sebulba coming back!
*Resident Evil Requiem revealled that Leon is coming back! (Which everyone guessed but it was nice to confirm)
*Evanesence performed the song they did for Devil May Cry (I need to watch it)
*A new Megaman game is coming, but not till 2027
*There was a clip from Street Fighter and the cast came onstage
*There was a cool game called Ontos by the people that made Soma (and the voice of Stellan Skarsgård)
*There was an awesome onstage announcement/trailer for a new control game and it’s so cool I’m glad I’m playing the first game.
*The Game Awards orchestra was so great, plus the flute guy kept changing is flute which was fun

I’m sure there was other stuff too that I’ve missed from it, cause there was a lot, but yeah. As you can see there was a lot of wild stuff.

I am a bit annoyed that the Hades II and Silksong devs didn’t get a chance to get onstage for their awards, they both deserved more love. (And honestly, it feels like a fluke that they didn’t but Expedition 33 was just… a powerhouse)

I am so hyped for the Star Wars games, especially racer and Resident Evil (I need to get back to 4). I’d say those three, Control Resonant, Ontos and Tomb Raider are the ones I’m most curious about, but I am kinda curious about a divinity. I mean that trailer was absolutely insane it was certainly memorable.

But ugh the whole thing was tiring and it has made me drained today.

Now to see if my brain will work on other things and then… I dunno. Maybe I’ll go on Control later

(From two issues back.)

When we last left the Blue Beetle, his prognosis was grim: the Queen Bee has programmed his mind to attack not only Max Lord but also itself. He's comatose and circling the drain. Without the Bee, he’s just a “-tle”! Only two things can save him: an old man he’s sort of met before and his own horniness.

But not for the old man. )

Don’t they have a silent mode?

Today has been a busy day but first.

As I mentioned in the last post the library stint yesterday was quiet and I mentioned to mum about getting the tree sorted. I was saying it in the sense of ‘we’ll do it Saturday’ but mum took it to mean ‘we’ll get it down yesterday’. Cue me lugging the thing down after the food shop came, opening the box and getting it out… only to find the stand for it is nowhere to be seen.

I think we’d boxed it last year, forgot to add the stand and it got put with other things but do I know where they are? Nope. So we have the tree box where it would go cause I didn’t have the energy to mess with it. (Mums genius idea? Sort it while food was cooking and obviously that went wrong)

Sigh.

Today started with sorting out an order for mum (the gingerbread Lego that’s meant to be for Xmas, but it’s on back order, but at least doing it now got a freebie) then mums friend came, ostensibly to bring Xmas stuff but of course she wanted stuff ordering too ugh.

Mail came today too, the new Stranger Things annual (which I got under half price!) which looks really good on my flick through! There was also God Is A Bullet, the blu ray with hot Garrett Wareing (which I was told to expect by Jan 22) so I hope it’s good (and works!). Then when I came back Doctor Who books were here (I got some 2 for £5 deals from zavvi, which are mostly hardbacks so oop sorry mum that you had to move them).

Today I went to town, the town part was pretty short. I looked in smiths for the new stranger things stickers but they’re not out yet, but I did get a Stranger Things thing from b and m (the box that I lost when I lost my bag the other month) but they didn’t have the snack pack or bag alas.

I went into Smyths but alas they didn’t have the stranger things funkos I was looking for (even Vecna which was listed on the site, but I guess he was on the high shelves hidden) but I did get the Lego happy plants though (look how cute!). I also got the Frankenstein art/making off book which was a real bargain from Asda (less than half off!). I had a little flick through and it looks beautiful.

None of the trailers were interesting so I will just jump right into the film talk. (Unlike the last film thoughts these will be more spoilery. So let’s get onto thoughts of Pillion and Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

That might be it for cinema adventures this month. I might see The Shining on one of it’s showings though but I’m not sure yet (it depends on mood, energy and weather) and I do wanna see Anaconda but that likely won’t be till early January cause it comes out just after Xmas.

Now though I’m gonna bundle up, watch stuff and might fic some.

Next days are low energy I might watch stuff (and the game awards is tomorrow) and I might go back to home bargains to get more Star Wars doorables (they’re so cute! And this set has some of my favs) but who knows if I’ll feel up to it. I also wanna make peanut butter booped cause I found recipes.

And there was something else but it’s gone out of my brain completely.

"It keeps revisiting this idea of who this clown was and what did he do, getting darker and darker. It asks, ‘What is a clown?’ ‘What does he love about clowns?’ It starts with, Oh he loves clowns because they’re funny and they make us laugh and then it goes to, ‘Maybe he loves clowns because they mock us.’ They’re a pantomime of our own buffoonery. In mythology, a clown is the only one who survives everything and laughs at us as we die." -- Scott Snyder

The past days have, once again been stressful and, once again induced by mum deciding that, yep, what I need is her being difficult. Bleh. But this post isn’t gonna be about that.

This weekend I ended up starting a game called Control. It’s by the people that made Alan Wake and I got it forever ago when it was on a sale but I just never started it. I had me heard that a console update with some fixes was coming a few months back.but eventually came in October (or early November? Time isn’t real) and so I’d added it higher on my gaming list. I decided to try it this weekend and I’ve ended up being hooked. I e gone on it about an hour or so a night and I’m currently at a furnace.

The whole thing is such a ‘me’ thing too, a shady government agency works to contain ‘paranatural’ things a secret. It feels a bit like warehouse 13 or the librarians in that regard, only instead of a small team there’s whole departments. Only now there is a mystery entity (or entities, though it’s implied to be a hive mind) and the player (Jesse) shouldn't be there but somehow is and has somehow inherited the directorship. (Cause of a weapon that chose her?) it’s really good so far and I feel I’m gonna do it more in nights and Pokémon ZA in the day (I need to finish it so many)

On Sunday there was the War Between The Land And The Sea. As I said before I was kinda worried it might be not great. Thankfully the first eps were pretty incredible so let’s (pun intended) dive in on my thoughts

Yesterday was Naryu’s jab which went well enough. I went into the new M and S (the food store has moved to a bigger space). I didn’t have time to look properly but it is overwhelming. There’s a ‘sushi bar’ though that definitely feels like an overstatement as it’s just a small counter, but it is so much bigger than it was (at least 4 times, likely more).

From the sainsburys I got some strnager things stuff, a cool looking jewellery set (a hellfire/Eddie themed charm bracelet and earrings but I’m not pierced anymore), a hellfire mug and d20 keyring. But that’s all I got really. I did get copious amounts of cheese (mostly from Aldi but also there) and some of the other party food .

(Speaking of Stranger Things does anyone know places with the new funkos? People seem to be going crazy with merch and so things seem harder to find)

But they also had the Christmas radio times early! There’s at least one thing on every day which is good (ranging from Festive Pottery Throw Down, Midsummer Murders, the Christmas lectures and other Christmas specials).

When I got back I was flop but ugh had a call, but I dozed after. In the night I watched civilisation which was good and then Welcome To Derry (I’ve slipped behind a tad) and I’m shocked a theory I had was right but also where’s Taniel but also WTF? But also oh no!

Today was a library stint and, while I didn’t read any of Halloween Party like I hoped I did finally read the first two event horizon comics which… damn they’re already so brutal. I really need to find the other issues, I’m so made it wasn’t in stock when I went to town.

Weather depending I should be seeing Pillion and FNAF 2 tomorrow (though I have a last chance option on Thursday, why is Pillion just one week??) and then… I sense things will be quiet. I’m also hoping I can get fic done today/tomorrow.

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

In deeply unfortunate moves in the UK, both girlguiding and the Women's Institute have announced they will no longer accept trans girls and women as members, both made it clear that they still believe transwomen to be women, and are only doing so is due to concerns regarding possible legal action following the UK Supreme Courts recent ruling that gender, under law, is solely defined by biology at birth.

In more surreal news from the US, and in an inspired bit of trolling, FIFA presented POTUS 47 with an entirely made up "Peace Prize" at the World Cup Draw. The ultimate participation trophy, and a medal he hung aorund his own neck, grinning like a five year old.

An interesting piece from the Sedgewick County Zoo, on the dangers imlpicit in AI animal content videos, and how to spot them.

In the run up to the release of "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery", a tribute of sorts was shown by, of all things, "Sesame Street" with their guest star Beignet Blanc, starring in "Forks Out".

In fact the only thing which could make this cooler ALSO happens, as we got a reaction video

The UNIT based miniseries, "The War Between the Land and the Sea" debuted with two episodes on Sunday (in the UK at least, those accessing it via Disney+ will have to wait until January 2026) and, believe it or not, it was terrific! Classic RTD firing on all cylinders. We met new kinds of Homo Aqua, Russell Tovey as an everyman stuck into a high stakes situation more or less by accident carries the role brilliantly, and the effects were GORGEOUS! PLEASE let this be as consistently good as these two episodes!
